Monday with the almighty Whea Toni

Te Ao Maori
We had Whea Toni on Monday!
She mainly teaches us Te Ao Maori, but this Monday we learnt about more of the early Maori's how they got through life, What they wore instead of pants and jersey’s! It was interesting to have a look at what they ate and dressed like and what they used
instead of a gun for defense.

Though half of the stuff we used in the early stages was made out of stone, pounamu, harakeke and wood. (Pounamu being green stone and harakeke being flax) Leaves, bones, feathers.
To help the early Maori to survive, as they ate moa and fish and meat.

Later on in the lesson we chose to draw clothes of the early maori and write down what we thought it was made of. We could also do this for weapons and their homes.
In the afternoon we moved on to more arty things.

We started to do some weaving! With paper! It was very easy, trust me. And quick to do! It was a bummer I didn’t have a chance to do mine, as I had testing to go through. But for the process you needed to fold the paper landscape, after have a look at the top, and go down a little and rule.
Follow where you first lined it and rule down and continue it but make them thicker.

It was a great lesson for us all as Whea Toni flicked through pictures and told us a story about the making of her grandsons lil bed. Featuring her cat that was insanely in love with the bed!

But, it was getting a little hectic! But luckily Whea Toni calmed us down!
